A bustling night in Chatham County, highlighting the vibrant restaurant culture.
Chatham County’s recent health inspections reveal a mix of culinary excellence and safety concerns. High performers like Britannia British Pub and Dunkin Donuts shone with impressive scores, while others, including Sisters and Embassy Suites, highlighted important hygiene issues. Staying informed about food safety is essential for diners in the area.
Hey there, food lovers of Chatham County! If you’ve been munching away at your favorite local spots, you’ll want to stay tuned because the Georgia Department of Health recently wrapped up its restaurant inspections from February 19 to February 25, 2025. Just like checking your recipe for the right spices, these inspections are about ensuring that our beloved eateries are keeping our food safe and our tummies happy.
First up, let’s give a big round of applause to the high-performing establishments that nailed their inspections with flying colors! These spots scored a fabulous 95 and above, and it shows that they are dedicated to upholding food safety standards. Leading the pack, we have the Britannia British Pub, Domino’s Pizza, and Dunkin Donuts (5921 Ogeechee Road), each racking up a score of 99. Isn’t that impressive? Alongside them, Kobe of Savannah and Bella’s Italian Café also shined brightly with scores of 97 and 96, respectively.
Don’t forget to check out other noteworthy spots like Hyatt Place Savannah Airport and Subway on Johnny Mercer Blvd., who also received commendations with solid scores! It’s always refreshing to know that we can trust our favorite places to whip up tasty treats while keeping hygiene and safety front and center. Yum!
Then there’s the Embassy Suites, which stumbled to a score of 73. Problems included mold-like growth on cheese and possible cold-holding troubles for yogurt and fruit salads. A clean kitchen doesn’t just mean tasty meals; it’s essential for our health too!
Naan Appetit, with a score of 80, had their share of violations as well, like raw lamb stored improperly above produce, which can create a scary cross-contamination risk. And talk about a kitchen mix-up at the Thompson Savannah Hotel Rooftop Bar, where raw burger patties were chilling above raw salmon. That’s a recipe for trouble!
Across various restaurants, some common issues were spotted. Improper food storage temperatures, unclean surfaces, and employee drinks near food prep areas popped up as worrying trends. It seems that some employees might need a little refresher course in handwashing and hygiene, too. Food items floating around without the proper covers is another big no-no!
Stay curious and keep eating, Chatham County!
