Julie Howard has been appointed as the new president of Georgia-Pacific’s Gypsum business, overseeing 12 gypsum mills and a workforce of over 3,000 employees. With nearly two decades of experience in consumer products and leadership roles, Julie is set to drive significant innovations in the industry. Her journey with the company began in 2007, and her extensive background is expected to guide Georgia-Pacific’s future developments. The company’s leadership transition signals a commitment to growth and excellence in the building products sector.
Big changes are happening at Georgia-Pacific, and the buzz is all about Julie Howard. On April 8, 2025, the company made a splash by announcing her appointment as the new president of the Gypsum business. It’s a significant leap for Julie, who has spent the last 18 years diving deep into the world of consumer products with the company.
Before stepping into her new role, Julie was the vice president and general manager of GP PRO Towels and Napkins. This experience has set her up quite nicely for her new position, where she’ll have her hands full overseeing a sizable team of over 3,000 employees and managing a whopping 12 gypsum mills scattered across the United States.
If you’re curious about what these gypsum mills do, get this: they churn out approximately five billion square feet of gypsum panels each year. That’s a staggering amount! Georgia-Pacific has definitely made its mark as a powerhouse in the building products arena.
Julie kicked off her career with Georgia-Pacific back in 2007. She started as a senior category manager focused on GP PRO’s foodservice disposable products. Over nearly two decades, she climbed the ladder, taking on more responsibilities, particularly in the away-from-home business category. This journey has equipped her with the know-how to tackle her latest challenges.
Before becoming a Georgia-Pacific stalwart, Julie gained valuable experience at Arch Chemicals, which is now part of Solenis. She also has international exposure from her time at gatc LP and DRÄXLMAIER Automotive, working side by side with some big names in the industry.
Within the ranks at Georgia-Pacific, there’s palpable enthusiasm about Julie’s leadership. David Neal, the executive vice president of Building Products, highlighted her extensive experience and expertise as key assets that will drive the team forward.
Meanwhile, a transition was also noted for the GP PRO sector, as Mike Adams, president of GP PRO, introduced Nate Medina as the new vice president and general manager of GP PRO Towels and Napkins. It’s exciting to see fresh leadership being appointed across the board!
On the academic front, Julie boasts a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University, where she focused on German and International Studies. Adding to her impressive qualifications is her MBA from Georgia State University, concentrating on Marketing and International Business. This mix of education and practical experience has certainly seasoned her for her leadership role.
When she’s not at work, Julie enjoys family life in metro Atlanta with her husband and two sons. She’s also passionate about giving back, actively volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. It’s heartwarming to see someone so dedicated to both her family and her community!
As a point of reference, Georgia-Pacific is headquartered in Atlanta and stands tall as a leading manufacturer of bath tissue, paper towels, napkins, and, of course, a range of building products. With over 150 facilities and a workforce of around 30,000 people, the company also creates more than 80,000 indirect jobs. It’s safe to say that Georgia-Pacific is a major player not just in Atlanta but across the nation.
With Julie Howard stepping into the role of president for the Gypsum business, the future looks promising. It’s an exciting time at Georgia-Pacific, and one can only imagine the innovative strides the company will make under her guidance!
