News Summary

Savannah law enforcement has arrested two repeat sex offenders, Stephen Alexander Bell and John Anthony Doyle, due to their failure to register as sex offenders. Both have extensive criminal histories and are classified as level 3 sex offenders. The arrests reflect law enforcement’s commitment to ensuring public safety and monitoring the activities of high-risk offenders in the community.

Savannah Sees Arrests of Two Repeat Sex Offenders

In a significant enforcement action, Savannah has witnessed the arrest of two men with troubling criminal histories related to sexual offenses. This proactive step was taken by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office’s Special Operations Response Team (SORT), which is dedicated to keeping the community safe from repeat offenders.

Stephen Alexander Bell: A Long History of Violations

One of the individuals arrested is Stephen Alexander Bell, a 57-year-old man who has found himself in hot water once again for failing to register as a sex offender and violating his probation. Bell, it seems, has been on a rocky path for a long time now, with a history that includes multiple arrests over the past decades. This latest arrest marks his 13th encounter with law enforcement in Chatham County alone.

Bell has not only faced legal troubles this year but his history stretches back to 2004, when he was convicted of child molestation in Georgia. His classification as a level 3 sex offender indicates that he is deemed at the highest risk of re-offending. This serious designation comes after a series of allegations dating back to 2003, which included aggravated child molestation and sexual battery. His past also includes time served at Coastal State Prison, as he seems to repeatedly stumble back into the legal system.

Bell’s continual disregard for regulations put in place to protect the community raises concerns about public safety. With five recorded probation violations in the past—spanning from 2004 to more recent arrests in 2023 and 2024—his future appears to remain mired in questions about his ability to comply with the law.

John Anthony Doyle: Another Repeat Offender

Not too far behind, 38-year-old John Anthony Doyle was also arrested by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office on similar charges. He was taken into custody on March 11 for failing to register as a sex offender and for willfully obstructing law enforcement. Doyle, much like Bell, carries the label of a level 3 sex offender and is categorized as a sexually dangerous predator within the state of Georgia.

Doyle’s criminal past is extensive and alarming, with 14 arrests throughout his life, of which 11 were for probation violations. His earlier offenses include serious charges such as aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation, and aggravated sexual battery, indicating a deeply troubling pattern of behavior. His involvement with the gang known as the Ghost Face Gangsters adds another layer of concern to his background.

It’s noteworthy to mention that prior to the most recent arrest, Doyle had over 50 previous charges, including various drug-related offenses, probation violations, and even burglary. His history of failing to adhere to probation rules has been evident across numerous years, with violations recorded from as far back as 2005 and recent incidents spanning from 2014 to 2022.

Community Impact

These arrests serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to monitor and manage the activities of sex offenders in Savannah and surrounding areas. As authorities continue to work diligently to protect the community, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

As the situation develops, the community will stay updated on the legal proceedings against Bell and Doyle. The enforcement actions taken reflect a serious commitment to public safety as Savannah navigates through the complexities of managing high-risk offenders.
