A frost warning is in effect for Friday morning, especially inland. However, warmer temperatures are expected over the weekend with highs reaching 70-80 degrees, but beware of rain and possible lightning on Sunday. Welcome to Savannah: A Weather Update You Need!

Hello Savannah residents! Get ready for a weather rollercoaster this week as Mother Nature decides to shake things up in our lovely city. A front has moved in, bringing cooler air that has dropped our morning temperatures into the 40s. With the wind chill, it might feel even colder, so don’t forget to wrap yourself in those jackets before stepping out.

Breezy Days Ahead

As we step out today, we’ll feel the breeze with wind gusts expected to reach between 25-30+ miles per hour throughout the afternoon. If you thought you could just throw on a T-shirt today, think again! By lunchtime, temps are likely to hover around the mid-50s, and we might just scrape into the lower 60s for the afternoon highs. So, if you’re planning a lunch outing, grab that sweater!

Friday Morning Frost

As we look ahead to Friday morning, keep an eye on the temperatures, as the cooler air will settle in overnight, making it feel a bit nippy in the 50s. If you’re in the inland areas, there’s a good chance of encountering some frost when you wake up – especially for those who live a bit further from the coast, where temperatures could dip into the chilly 30s and 40s. Yes, it’s time to dig out those winter hats and gloves!

Warmer Weekend on the Horizon

But don’t fret just yet! Friday will bring a turnaround, with highs predicted to climb back up into the upper 60s. That means a lovely evening for heading out to enjoy what Savannah has to offer. As we strut into Saturday morning, expect to wake up to temperatures in the upper 40s. You can finally say goodbye to the jackets as we hit highs of between 70-80 degrees as the day progresses. Yes, it’s time for shorts and sunshine!

Watch Out for Saturday Rain

However, grab your umbrellas because rain is expected to roll in late Saturday. Sunday is shaping up to be a washout with widespread rain likely, and don’t be surprised if we see some flashes of lightning. Fortunately, the good news is that severe storms don’t seem to be on the dance card, but it’s always better to be prepared. Highs will return to the lower 60s on Sunday as cooler air makes its way back.

Spring Comes with Safety Alerts

In light of the weather changes, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has shared concerns about the potential for severe weather starting this evening. Several areas have been given a “Slight Risk” (level 2 of 5) for severe weather, primarily due to those strong wind gusts and a slim chance of brief tornadoes. This is important information, so make sure you’re keeping up with the forecasts.

School and Safety Precautions

Parents, rest assured that Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools are keeping a close eye on the situation and there are currently no changes to the operational schedule. However, some delays on school buses might occur due to safety precautions. Be sure your kids are dressed appropriately for whatever the day might bring.

A Week of Awareness

This week, running from March 2 through March 8, is also “Severe Weather and Flood Safety Week” in South Carolina. It’s a perfect opportunity to brush up on some essential tornado safety tips, such as having a safety plan in place, knowing where the safest spot is in your home, and protecting yourself from debris. Make sure you’re familiar with your county’s weather alert systems and consider using resources like the local weather apps to stay updated.

Stay Warm and Informed!

As we take on this unpredictable weather week, remember to stay warm and safe, Savannah! We’re in for a little bit of everything, but it’s just another adventure in the beautiful, unpredictable world of Savannah weather.
